Studying In Community Colleges In USA-Kanan International

All You Need To Know About Studying In Community Colleges In USA

Community colleges in the recent times have become quite popular. These colleges at times are referred to as junior colleges which are two-year schools that offer affordable post-secondary education as a path to a four year degree. Prior to starting with a traditional university, it is always better to opt for a community college. As the quality of the education you will get at a community college is just as excellent as that of a traditional four year university, a community college is an ideal starting point if you want to earn a bachelor’s degree eventually.

There is a common misconception among parents that a community college degree will not assist their students to get enrolled in the leading universities of the world. But that really could not be further from the fact. In fact, community colleges are well-known across the world and are certified by the council for Higher Education Accreditation, in addition to the U.S. Department of Education.

Mentioned below are some of the benefits that explain why studying at a community college is beneficial:

  • – The fees: Attending University for four years can be expensive and one may have to apply for a student loan which can be a wearisome process. On the other hand, studying at a community college prior to continuing to university will help in saving a lot of money. Tuition fees for community college are quite lower. Life in the United States is very costly, so having to pay less for tuition is definitely an advantage to studying at a community college particularly when you can get the same quality of education that you would get at a university.
  • – Hassle free admission process: Getting admission into a traditional college or university is certainly a very difficult task. However, on the other hand, getting admission into a community college is much easier. Thus, you should check with the community college in which you are interested in to see if any partnerships or agreements exist that you can finally take benefit of. In addition, unlike the traditional universities, the community colleges do not require international students to take the TOEFL. Rather, community colleges give students the chance to take an assessment on-site to find out a student’s level of English expertise. Thus, community colleges can make the admissions process a hassle-free method.
  • – Additional Benefits: For most of the international students, beginning at the community college level and obtaining a higher GPA or grade point average can prove to be beneficial. This is particularly useful for students who do not have an excellent GPA prior to attending a community college.

How Is SDS (Student Direct System) Different From SPP?

How Is SDS (Student Direct Stream) Different From SPP?

SPP is nothing but Student Partners Program for the Indian students for studying in Canada. The Canada SPP is basically a joint pilot project between CIC or is Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s visa offices in India and ACCC that is the Association of Canadian Community Colleges. Canada has been particularly very famous for the successful Student Partners Program which had been launched by the Government of Canada. This program is extremely common among the Indian students because of the fact that this program plays a vital role easing the overall process of procuring student visa. At the same time, the Student Partners Program takes pride in high visa success rate ratio.

But at the end of the previous year, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada or IRCC has made a few changes to the Student Partners Program that existed has resulted in the creation of a lot of confusion among the Indian students. Getting a proper guide in this regard would be certainly very helpful to the students in clearing out the confusion about the changes that has been made to the SPP program.

Changes Made in Student Partners Program

The changes so made to the Student Partners Program that existed are not very major for the Indian students. But at this point of time, it is to be kept in mind that what are the differences between Student Partners Program or SPP that existed and the present Study Direct Stream or SDS.

  • The most important change has been made in the name of the program. Previously it was called Student Partners Program that started in the year 2009 and currently it is referred to as Study Direct Stream which started in the year 2017.
  • The minimum overall band for IELTS required for SPP was 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each of the sub bands and in the present SDS system the minimum remains 6.0 but the minimum for each sub bands is also 6.0. Thus, the changes in the band requirements is an important change which a point of caution for the students.
  • In the Study Direct Stream program, the students need to pay the fees for the whole year that is the annual fees instead of the semester fees. Also, if any interested student posses a band score of six in each of the bands but pays the fees of only one semester, the student visa for that student will be processed under the general category.
  • The Student Partners Program or SPP was linked with the colleges whereas the Study Direct Stream or SDS is directly linked with the students.

Apply for Student Visa for Canada-Kanan InternationalThe Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada or IRCC has notified that all of the changes mentioned above will be applicable to all the study permits to the nation of Canada which are received from the 1st of February 2018 irrespective of the date of the letter of offer. Hence, keeping these changes in mind will help the Indian students to get the study visa to Canada with convenience.

This program is formulated to offer employment to foreign workers for jobs that require specialized knowledge. When compared to the OPT program that saw around 257,000 people take part in it in 2006, the H-1B program is restricted to around 85,000 people every year.

The next important aspect is to check on the availability of the course that you want to study. Not all universities offer all subjects and hence, you need to be well aware here. Start your search 12 months in advance or even much earlier so that you are able to meet the admission criteria for your preferred college/University.

  • Consider the Source of your Finances

Once you have decided on a certain university and a course of study, you need to look into the costs that you will have to bear when staying alone in the US. From accommodation costs to living costs, you need to work around well to identify the best source of finance.

The cost of education varies in different colleges. Likewise, the cost of accommodation may vary in different cities and states. Work out your economy before you take a decision.

Canadian Immigration Policies That Favor International Students-Kanan International

Canadian Immigration Policies That Favor International Students

An education in Canada is one of the easiest ways to get permanent residency in the country. The Canadian government, in order to get more students to enroll in their colleges and universities, has substantially relaxed its immigration policies for international students. This is a way to incentivize more and more highly skilled and educated people to live and work in Canada, thereby contributing to the country’s growth.

International Graduates Fall under the Express Entry

The one year or two-year post-secondary programs will fetch you 15 CRS points, and those with duration of three or more years will fetch 30 straight points on the PR application. Masters degrees, Doctoral degrees and some entry-to-practice professional degrees will also give you 30 points on the application.

Unlike in the United States, the process of applying for PR in Canada after studies there is fairly straightforward and reliable. If you care deeply about getting to live in a highly developed foreign country, this is your chance of achieving it, besides receiving a world-class education.

How to Improve Your Chances of Attaining Student Visa for USA-Kanan International

How to Improve Your Chances of Attaining Student Visa for USA

Getting selected into a US university/college of your choice is no mean feat. After all, American universities only grant admissions to the best students out of the lot. But wait, before celebrating your accomplishment and new life of opportunity just yet, you need to get your US student visa sorted. Here are some useful tips to prepare you for the visa formalities so you can avoid facing rejection.

Make the Right Moves When Applying for Student Visa for USA

There are two student visa categories you can apply for when planning to study in the US. Students heading to the US for non-academic or vocation studies require the M visa while students pursuing academic studies in the US need an F1 visa. See that you meet all of the requirements and conditions perfectly if you want to obtain a student visa.

It is best to apply for a visa three months in advance. In this way, any appeal in case of visa denial or delays at the embassy can be taken into consideration.

Prepare for the US Student Visa Interview Well

Don’t dwell on the intimidating experience you think it is going to be like. Sitting in an embassy having an interaction with a visa officer won’t be a problem if you dress professionally and keep your answers sincere, committed and to the point. Putting on business attire helps to form a favorable impression.

If you haven’t scored high academically, you have to show your commitment and productively put forth the reasons why you will succeed studying in the US.

Adapt to the Interviewer

See if you can figure out whether the interviewer is in a hurry or not. You can then decide if you want to keep your answers short. If the interviewer is thorough and methodical, you can elaborate a little but see that you keep it specific and concise. Talk about the university you have taken admissions in and the kind of career these studies will help you pursue.

You can talk about how studying in the US and in a particular college that offers you the right majors will broaden your opportunities but do not make over exaggerated statements by stating that it is a lifelong dream to study in the US. Be honest and do not give unclear responses.

A Few Common Questions Asked in the Interview

You can be asked whether you have previously been to the US, what your GPA percentage is like, the number of universities you applied to, who will be financing your studies and which of the universities you got admitted into. You can also be questioned about any scholarships that you have received or whether you have any relatives in the US.

Be prepared to answer questions about why you want to study in the US and details about your chosen university. The interviewer will also want to know about your future plans and aspirations after the completion of your course.

Causes that lead to Visa Application Rejection

Your US student visa application can get rejected if the university you have applied to or the degree you want to gain looks suspicious. If you put forth the idea of staying back and gaining employment in the US, you can get rejected for an F1 visa. If you cannot prove that you can fund your studies, you may encounter a problem.

So keep these few things in mind if you want to ensure that your visa does not get rejected and your plans for studying in the US don’t come to a standstill. At Kanan International, our experienced faculty will help you in applying for student visa to USA and help you prepare for the interview.

5 Steps to Study in the USA-Kanan International-Vadodara

5 Steps to Study in the USA

The world’s largest international student population is said to be found in the United States of America (USA) as over 1,000,000 students choose to gain higher education and life experience here. If you yourself want to pursue your higher studies in the US or are considering doing so, you are expected to follow these five procedures.

Step 1: Do your Research Well and Get to Know your Options

You need to know that you cannot judge a US college by an official ranking system as such a thing does not exist. Researching the kind of colleges and universities around so you can choose the one that is best for you is imperative. Take into account whether a particular college suits you personally, academically and financially.

Decide what you want to learn, where you are most likely to adjust easily, where you want to live in the US and whether you will need financial help. Accordingly, make your choice.

Step 2: Come Up with the Resources to Finance your Education

You cannot really judge the cost of living and study in the US. This is why it is important to plan your finances as early as you can. International students get a good amount as financial assistance although you have to rise above the competition to attain this financial aid.

See what benefits your career and educational dreams and how much you are willing to spend on it. Your level of study that is choosing from undergraduate, community college and graduate courses also plays a vital factor when it comes to financing a particular course.

Step 3: See that You Complete General Application Requirements

You need to fill your application well and with utmost concentration. This process constitutes writing essays, collecting recommendations and making a list of the necessary examination results. You need to pay particular focus on all of these aspects if you want to successfully get into the university or college of your choice.

Remember, no two applications are the same. There are some applications that require you to take third-party standardized tests. At Kanan International, our experts will help you better understand the application requirements and how you can fulfill them.

Step 4: Don’t Forget to Apply for your Student Visa

Before you apply for a visa, you first need to be accepted by a US institution of higher education. Keep in mind that the institution needs to be certified by the SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program). Understand the types of visas, the fees, the process of applying for one and the documents required for the same.

Prepare for your visa appointment well. Make sure you explain the purpose of studying in the US, how you will support yourself while studying and what are your future plans.

Step 5: Prepare Adequately and Carefully for your Departure

Understand what life in the US will be like and plan accordingly. Finalize travel arrangements and get all of your necessities ready. At Kanan International, we provide comprehensive guidance in this regard so your transition can be as smooth as possible.

Surf your chosen institution’s website and check for the pre-departure orientation they are offering. Understand temperature, housing, health insurance, local transportation and other factors that will help you in everyday living in a better way.

These five steps are sure to help a prospective international student in a successful manner when pursuing a short-term or full degree program in the US. If you find the procedure complex, take help of our experienced faculty at Kanan International to provide you necessary guidance and hand-hold you through all these steps.

5 Tips to Improve Your GRE Score-Kanan International

5 Tips to Improve Your GRE Score

Taking the GRE is one of the first steps towards getting admission into an American university for postgrad studies. Although not a guarantee of admission in itself, GRE score has a great weightage in getting you accepted in a university of choice. In a way, your performance on GRE reflects what you’ve learnt all throughout your student life. But you can surely give your scores a boost by a thorough preparation and a few smart test-taking tactics. While there are professional GRE coaching classes for help, you need to do a lot of smart work other than just attending GRE classes. Here are a few tips for acing GRE.

1) Invest in regular study

GRE is a test of persevered efforts. The sooner you start, the better it will be. And make sure you put in at least an hour of study every day without a break. All areas of the test require consistent hard work – vocabulary building, analytical writing and quantitative ability. There is hardly a shortcut to any of these.

2) Take mock tests and build a test-taking strategy from them

Speed is an extremely critical factor when taking the GRE; and the only way to develop is by taking dozens of mock tests before you take the real one. These mock tests will help you assess which areas you are the strongest in and should attempt first. Recognize the questions that you find difficult and time-consuming, so you can mark any such questions and go back to them later after attempting the more scoring parts of the test.

3) Book a time slot when you are at your alert best

You can take the GRE in various slots through the day. Use this choice to your best advantage by picking a time slot when you are at your peak mental performance. If you are not much of a morning person, for example, make sure you book a time in the later part of the day for best results.

4) Consider taking GRE coaching

Even though GRE coaching classes are not necessary, they can help you significantly if you have limited time before the test and are not completely sure of what all to study on priority. GRE classes can provide valuable guidance in such a situation.

5) Do not be disheartened at an underwhelming attempt

The option to re-take the GRE is there for a reason! Numerous reasons could keep a student from delivering his/her best on the test on a particular day. A large pool of GRE takers goes for multiple attempts, and there is nothing wrong with that. So do not take your test scores to heart and start preparing for a second attempt the moment you realize the first one wouldn’t do you justice.

Many students erroneously believe that a perfect GRE score is all they need to get into an elite US university. However, the caveat is that even after you get a perfect GRE score, getting admission into an American college or university is no small task – it’s a feat to achieve. Add in all the paperwork and visa procedures, the entire project of catapulting yourself to the US can be a tough one. At Kanan International, we conduct GRE coaching to help you prepare for the test. Apart from helping you prepare for the exam through structured GRE classes, we also guide you through all the further steps towards admission.

Everything You Need To Know About SAT-Kanan International

Everything You Need To Know About SAT

SAT is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission into most undergraduate colleges in the US. It tests you mainly on three sets of skills: writing, language competency and mathematics. If you aspire to go the States for your Bachelor’s, you should get acquainted with SAT and start preparing for it as early as possible. You could also take advantage of professional SAT coaching classes to get expert guidance and strategic SAT tips that will help you crack the exam with flying colours. The longer and the more consistent your preparation is, the higher will be your chances of getting a brilliant score.

Sections of SAT

The test comprises three sections and an additional section of ‘Essay’, which is optional.

1. Math

The math section is 80 minutes long in duration and contains 57 questions – for 37 of these, you can use a calculator; for the remaining 20, calculators are not allowed. The syllabus for math broadly consists of problem solving, data analysis, basic algebra and some advanced math concepts.

2. Reading

This is a 65-minute long section comprising a total of 52 questions. Expect to get passages on literature, history, science and the other social sciences in the ‘Reading’ section of SAT. Most of these passages will be in the 500-750 word range.

3. Writing and Language

The third section is 35 minutes long. It will typically have 44 questions that test your understanding and expression of the English language.

4. Essay

The essay is optional and is not scored. However, for certain courses that need you to be acutely analytical of arguments, a well-written essay will carry a good amount of weightage. The time limit for writing the essay is 50 minutes.

SAT Scores

Individual sections on SAT are scored in the range of 200-800. The maximum overall SAT score you can get is 1600. The average person taking the test tends to get a mean score of 1000. And anything over 1200 is considered a good SAT score that multiplies your chances of getting admission into a college of choice. You will get your final score about four or five weeks after you take the test. It is your choice to keep the score, and your choice to send it to whichever colleges you want to apply to.

SAT Schedule

You can take the SAT just four times a year and the dates are fixed for the same. Every year they release a test schedule with the four dates when SAT would be conducted. Choose the date when you think you will be sufficiently well-prepared. We recommend taking the first attempt of SAT well in advance so you can start applying to colleges as soon as they open for applications.

Preparing for SAT

You can surely prepare for the test on your own with a few books and online aid. But if you have the slightest doubt about being able to devote time regularly to the purpose, enrolling into a SAT coaching class will do you a great favour. Reputed coaching classes tend to have highly experienced faculty who can give you excellent insights into building speed and accuracy on the test.

At Kanan International, we conduct SAT coaching and are always available to give you SAT tips and help process your admission application from the ground up. Reach out to us for the most well-informed, professional and unbiased advice on US college admissions.

Degree Courses You Can Pursue in USA-Kanan International

Degree Courses You Can Pursue in USA

Depending on your current education level and further interests, you can choose from among four types of degree courses in USA. Once you decide your subjects or your majors, you can start looking for the best colleges and universities offering what you want. Let’s look at the options in degree courses in the US for you.

1. Study Abroad Degree

Study abroad degree is what we popularly call ‘student exchange programs’. Under this program, you study for only a semester or two in the USA and come back home to finish the rest of your course in your original college. This is a perfect choice for those looking for cultural exposure and research opportunities without committing to a long full-time study abroad course. Naturally, it also saves you a lot of money compared to an undergrad or a postgrad course. You can take a study abroad course either during your Bachelors or during your Master’s degree. The classes you take during it are flexible to quite an extent.

2. Undergraduate Degree

Undergraduate degree programs are the equivalent of a Bachelor’s. They typically take three or four years in the US. Contrary to popular perception, going to America for undergraduate studies is actually a great option for Indian students. The choice of disciplines and the freedom to move between majors is phenomenal in American colleges. So if you have just completed school, an undergraduate degree from the USA is a fine option for you to consider – it can prove remarkably beneficial for you in both the short and the long term.

3. Postgraduate Degree

Postgraduate studies are for those who have already completed a Bachelor’s education. Master’s degree programs in the USA are extremely popular among all foreign students including Indians. Besides Master’s, an increasing number of students are also choosing to go for PhD programs for their postgraduate education. While Master’s degree studies take about a year and a half to two years to finish, a PhD will understandably take you a little longer.

Let us help you make the right choice

The efficacy of a degree program depends on your subject as well as the amount of experience you have beforehand. Analyzing Costs Associated with Studying in USA-Kanan International

Analyzing Costs Associated with Studying in USA

Preparedness for all the expenses you may incur during an education in the USA can help you sail through your university years. Factoring in all areas of expenditure, even if it is something small like the cost of buying books, will let you plan accordingly. And once you know how much money you will need towards tuition and living costs in the USA, you can take appropriate steps towards arranging for the funds well before you get on the flight.

Broadly, you need to incorporate the following costs when you calculate a budget for your study in USA.

1. Tuition fee

This is the bulk of your foreign education expenses. In the USA, cost of studying is certainly on the higher side compared to some other countries, but it is well worth it for the excellent research and internship opportunities it opens up for you. Tuition fees vary widely depending on the course you take and the university you go to. Annual tuition fees may range anywhere between $5000 and $50,000.

2. Accommodation rental

Accommodation types for students fall into three categories: on-campus accommodation, off-campus accommodation and living with a host family. Living on-campus is the most expensive among these, but if you want to be in the center of student activity even after regular college hours, it would be a great option for you. Living with a host family is a good idea for undergrad students as they get the local support they need, but it is again slightly costlier than living off-campus.

3. Food and miscellaneous living costs

Budget in at least $10,000 per year for the basics like food and transportation within your city. This cost will vary a little based on which state you are going to.

4. Travel cost, including some recreational travel

Include the cost of flying to and from the US. Return tickets to India during a non-peak-season may cost about $1500. Besides traveling back home, you may want to make the most of your stay in the States by exploring the cities around. So do reserve some funds for that too!

5. Phone, Internet and other utilities

If you have never lived alone before, you will be surprised by how much these apparently small costs add up to. Plan for them in advance to avoid any bad surprises.

6. Entertainment

Student life is incomplete without the weekend fun. After long weeks of hard work, you will need some time to chill with your new friends, and however prudent you try to be here, there is no avoiding a bit of expenditure on rejuvenation drills.

At Kanan International, we can help you arrange for the funds for your study in USA. We, can, on your behalf, give you the best scholarship options you can apply to. In addition, if you need to go for a student loan, we can steer you towards the best schemes available in the market. Contact us for an A to Z guidance on foreign education!

Studying Abroad Right After 12th Is A Good Idea

If you are in a dilemma of whether to go for a US education now, right after class 12th, or to go there later to do your masters, allow us to bust the myth for you that going abroad is best suited to post grad students. Pursuing an education abroad, especially in the US has several unbeatable advantages for undergraduates. From well-rounded personality development to fantastic internship opportunities, the choice can prove enriching to your life in the long run.

Here go the top five advantages of studying in the US right after you finish school in India.

  • You Can Make a Better Career Choice

In American colleges and universities, you can study a variety of disciplines at work making interesting subject combinations that would be unthinkable in a more conventional education system. So instead of relying on education counsellors, your peers or your parents for a career choice, you can make your own choice after playing around with a variety of subjects that interest you. For this reason, going to study in the US right after 12th grade may be an even better decision than going there at a master’s level.

  • You Grow Up Faster than Your Peers and therefore Become More Employable

Going to a country so far from home and adjusting yourself to a completely new environment gives you an unmatched polish and maturity. With all the soft skills you learn through this, your potential to thrive in a professional environment shoots up and employers certainly do take this into account.

  • You Get Work Experience through Internships

Numerous internships and an overall real-world focussed curriculum is what make US education stand out from the rest. The entire system is designed in a way that you get exposure to the industry and the workspace at a very early stage. The three or four years of your college studies in the US can take you through a professional environment and such exciting projects that would be hard to come by back at home.

  • The Research Facilities in the US are Incomparable

America offers an impressive infrastructure for research and experimentation. The labs, tech-support and access to resources make it a favoured destination for those aspiring to derive powerful insights in their chosen field of study.

  • Admission is Dependent on More than Just Your Grades

While most undergrad schools in India take into account only your grades or an entrance test score to determine your eligibility to get admission, American universities weigh you on a wide variety of parameters to assess how well rounded an individual you are. So if the grading system has been unfair to you, you can always look up to a high quality education abroad.

At Kanan International, we work directly with over 150 US universities and can help you choose the right one. We guide you through admissions as well as visa applications. Moreover, we even help our students find accommodation in case a college campus is not an option for them.

6 Reasons Why You Should Study At An American University-Kanan-International

6 Reasons Why You Should Study At An American University

If you are considering options for higher studies and going to the United States is one of them, choosing it may prove to be one of the finest decisions of your life. Studying in the US does give you an edge over studying in India or even in some other foreign country for that matter. The following advantages should be compelling enough for you to make your choice.

1. US Offers One of the Broadest Spectrum of Subjects You Can Study at One Time

American values on liberty reflect in its education system. You can choose to study varied subjects at any given point and then make your choice of the one you wish to specialize in. Unlike in India, you have no pressure of choosing a particular subject and then sticking to it right in your first year of undergrad school. So you can get acquainted with a variety of subjects, explore your options well and then make an informed choice on which you want to pursue further.

2. US Education is Most Focussed on Practical Learning

The American education system has its foundations in real world learning. Unlike the traditional systems of India or the UK, in America there is limited focus on learning theoretical concepts alone, and more on the application of those concepts to real world problems. When you graduate from an American university, you are much more employable than you would be after studying in India.

3. You Can Find Some of the Best Internships in America while Studying

Colleges in the US encourage you to take as many internships as you can during the course of study. And the opportunities for getting fantastic internships are also in plenty. This way, you get a tremendous amount of industry exposure even before you graduate from school.

4. Recruitment from University Campus is very Strong

American university campuses are buzzing with recruitment activity. A great many companies recruit fresh college graduates right from the university campus. If you maintain your grades, complete a few substantial projects and hone your soft skills well during your years at college, you stand a high chance of getting a dream job by the time you reach your final year.

5. American Universities have Extremely Well Structured Funding Options

Whether it is tuition fee or funding for an offbeat project you want to delve into, universities in US are always willing to invest in your endeavour. Most meritorious students are able to get at least a partial waiver on tuition fee through the numerous scholarship programs at the university level or through other education funding authorities.

6. You get Exposed to a Truly Multi-Cultural Atmosphere in America

America is rightly called the melting pot of cultures. You won’t find as much ethnic and cultural diversity anywhere else in the world as you would in America. Studying and living with people coming from such varied backgrounds will be a fun as well as enlightening experience for you. Even employers value candidates who demonstrate the capability to thrive in a globalized atmosphere.

With the treasure of benefits in store for you in the short as well as the long term, education in the US is something you should seriously consider. And, if you have made up your mind, visit us at Kanan International. We will help you realize your dream by offering expert guidance at every step. Student Visa for USA-Kanan International

Essential Requirements for Getting Student Visa for USA

Thousands of Indian students get their student visa to USA every year without any hassle. So be confident that once you get an acceptance letter from a university of choice, the visa procurement wouldn’t be something that would hold you back from pursuing your studies in the US; but don’t let that make you complacent either. At Kanan International, a renowned student visa consultancy for USA, we help you meticulously follow application guidelines and procedures regarding submission of documents and also help you prepare for the interview process.

Below are key tips that you must pay attention to when applying for student visa to USA.

Prepare Well to Boost Your Chances of Getting a Student Visa for USA

Fill the right forms, prepare the required list of documents and also the corroboratory documents to establish yourself as a genuine non-immigrant visa seeker and get information on what kind of questions you could be asked during the interview.

Which Visa Category are You Applying For?

For students pursuing a full degree program in the US, an F-1 visa is granted, while for those going on an exchange program from an existing course that they are pursuing in some other country, a J-1 visa is the norm.

The I-20, DS-2019 and DS-160 Forms

Once you get acceptance to a university and you have made your choice to pursue your studies there, you ask your university to send you the I-20 (for F-1 visa) or the DS-2019 (for J-1 visa) form. In addition to these two, you can also go for a generic DS-160 form which lets you complete the entire application online.

Whatever form you are choosing, be very careful with filling it; even a tiniest error could cost you heavily here. So fill it, and then re-check it several times before submission.

Apply for Student Visa for USA as Early as Possible

After submitting the I-20 or DS-2019 form, you may have to wait for a few days to about a few weeks depending on your course and other security screening parameters before getting a clearance. Therefore, it’s important that you send across your application well in advance before course commencement dates so you don’t risk missing any of your classes.

Preparing for the Interview

Be ready to face questions like why you wish to study in the United States. Your answers should be straightforward, honest, convincing and naturally spoken. Have a mental picture of the answers you would like to give, but don’t memorize them word by word – this will only make you look fake and annoying.

During the interview, you will also be required to present a proof of your financial stability for pursuing an education abroad. A bank statement showing sufficient funds in your account certainly is mandatory, but also a letter from your bank establishing you as a long-term customer with a good credit score will be very helpful.

Be Articulate about Answering Questions Pertaining to Your Intentions to Return After Completing Studies

This is the most common cause for student visa rejections – in case you are not able to convince the officer about the fact that you will come back to India after completing your studies in the US, you risk not getting a student visa at all. So prepare an answer well and carry the necessary documents to support your claim.

5 Essential Guidelines for Students Planning to Study in USA-Kanan International

5 Essential Guidelines for Students Planning to Study in USA

Education in USA is your gateway to the wide world out there. The diversity of culture, the higher standards of pedagogy and the various research opportunities make it completely worth spending your time and money on studying in the United States. However, you want to make sure you extract the maximum value out of this rather expensive experience; and to do that, the best way to go about is to prepare as thoroughly as possible. Here are a few crucial guidelines of things to consider before you enrol into a program to study in USA.

1. Do Your Research Well

First of all, read on the education system in general. Different countries of the world have different educational hierarchies and subsequently different requirements in terms of how many years of previous education you need to be able to enrol into a course of a certain level, say grad or post grad.

Once you understand the system well, go on to researching about the subject you wish to study. Depending on the level at which you want to pursue the subject, make a list of colleges and universities offering courses that match your requirements. Now, look at the overall ranks of the institutes, followed by ranking in the particular department you are looking at. Many a time, an institute may have a great overall rank but not that great a rank in the individual department; so look specifically for subject-wise rankings before you set your eyes on a university.

2. Plan Your Finances to the Tiniest Detail

Incorporate all the costs you will incur during the course of your study in the US and add them up to get a clear estimate on how much money you need to arrange for before you commit to an education abroad. Include cost of living, books, additional courses and also of flying.

When it comes to tuition fee, you can get scholarships and grants from organizations that offer research and higher education aid to international students. Also, you can look up to the education authorities in India for funding your education abroad through their various assistance programs.

3. Take the Time to Understand the Application Process Really Well

The application process may differ across institutes and you need to be very careful in filing your application; there is no room for errors in here. Read the application guidelines again and again and make sure no required document is missing before you submit.

4. Prepare for the Visa Application Procedure

You need to get an acceptance letter before you apply for the US Students’ Visa. This process, too, like application filling, should be taken very seriously. Keep all your documents ready well in advance before your interview. At Kanan International, a reputed USA student visa consultancy, we help students prepare for the visa application and interview so they can realize their dream without any hitches.

5. Read about the Life and Culture at US

To avoid putting yourself in awkward social situations, it’s always great to know a little bit about the culture and social practices of a country before you visit. Besides, it’s also very important for you to understand the difference in ways of life so you can make an informed decision for yourself about spending a few valuable years there without any family support.

With thousands of Indian students going to the US every year to study, it shouldn’t be tough for you to find the necessary support system. Just follow the guidelines well and you should have a smooth sail of an education in USA.

Improve Your Score in IELTS Reading Section - Kanan International

Tips to Improve Your Score in IELTS Reading Section

Many students often say that IELTS reading section is the toughest part of the whole IELTS exam. According to them; speaking, listening and writing sections can be tackled with relative ease. It is a fact that you have to read very fast and in order to score good marks on the reading test; you must learn the art of reading with increased amount of concentration. There is no short cut to success and if you follow a systematic method of approach, you can better your score effectively. Here are some important IELTS tips to improve your score in the reading section:

Create clear cut understanding about the structure and pattern of the reading test

You get 60 minutes to answer 40 questions and no extra time is allotted to answer the questions. The reading test focuses on assessing different skill levels of the candidate and they include the ability to find specific information, complete a diagram or summary, identify the purpose of the author, find specific information, follow the key argument and find the difference between main ideas and support details. 14 different types of questions are included in this section and the best IELTS coaching programs cover all types of questions to make the preparation highly result oriented.

Read and understand the instructions with great care and vigilance

When you write any test or exam, you have to read the instructions carefully. IELTS reading test is not different as well. The reading test gives specific instructions and if you do not closely follow these instructions, you may get the question wrong. If you are asked to write one word; you must write only one word not two words. If the answer demands two words; you must write only two words. For example; if the answer is ‘blue and green’ and the answer asks for two words; you must write ‘blue, green. When you write ‘blue and green’, the number of words becomes three and you will lose the mark. Reading test contains these types of specific instructions and you need to follow these instructions carefully to get the answers right.

Utilize time effectively

Many students commit the mistake of writing answers in the booklet and then, transferring them into the answer sheet. It is a very time consuming process, especially for a time-based test like IELTS reading test. You must fill start recording the answers in the answer sheet itself as you go. It is absolutely essential to pay close attention to the task prior to start reading the test and you must keep on practicing lots of reading tests in a daily manner to get accustomed to the pattern and structure of the exam. Effective time management is the key and it is always advisable to finish each section within 20 minutes. You can spend 16 to 17 minutes for reading and 3 to 4 minutes can be taken to answer the questions and checking the answers. The speed and style of every individual is different and everyone must find out what works best for them.

Develop your vocabulary but be cool

Developing your vocabulary is an integral part of IELTS coaching. Inadequate vocabulary is one of the key reasons why many students do not get the score they need in the reading test. Learning vocabulary is not all about learning the meaning of the word but it is more about understanding when you can and cannot use a word. This process is also about knowing what collocations can be used with words. The reading test makes use of synonyms and paraphrase sentences to check your vocabulary level and the leading IELTS coaching centers advise students to read, note and review to improve their vocabulary. Reading is undoubtedly the most effective way for enhancing your vocabulary and you must learn how to guess the meaning from the context. After all; you are supposed to do this in the exam and it is absolutely necessary to keep on practicing this method while preparing for the test.

Other important IELTS tips include leaving no blanks, focusing on your understanding of the text instead of not getting carried away by your existing knowledge of the topic, not spending excess amount of time for answering difficult questions, learning the art of skimming and scanning, and improving your reading speed. There is no substitute for hard work. You must keep on practicing with great dedication and discipline and, extreme care must be given to identify your weaknesses because it always helps you improve your score in IELTS reading section.

Top Tips to Crack a Student Visa Interview

Are you looking for some last minute prep for your student visa interview? Here goes a quick list of top 6 interview tips that will come handy for obtaining a student visa to Canada.

1. Get your Documents in Place

You will get a list of documents to bring along to the visa office on the day of the interview. Go through it thoroughly to make sure you forget nothing, for, even the smallest mistake can cost you heavily. Besides all the mandatory documents, you may like to gather all necessary documents that prove your stakes in returning to India after your education.

2. Make a Conscious Effort to be 100% Honest – Leave no Ambiguity

Visa Officers are experts at detecting lies. Be honest in all your answers. It helps to be succinct during the interview – keep your answers short and accurate. Even the slightest ambiguity can result in a failed application. Don’t give a wrong or an ambiguous answer even by mistake – if there is something you do not understand in the question, politely ask them to rephrase it – but do not risk giving an incorrect response based on limited understanding of the question itself.

3. Be Well Prepared with Information about Your Course and University

This will help you answer the visa officer’s questions on why you wish to study in Canada. Your answer should reflect your focus on quality education and cultural exposure alone, and not on finding work in Canada. Talk about how your chosen course will help you hone your skills and how you will be able to use them when you get back home to India.

4. Have an Answer to why You Cannot Study the Same Subject in India

Better research facilities, more cultural exposure and networking opportunities, more refined course strategy or unavailability of the same course in India – whatever be your reason for opting to study in Canada, prepare to explain it well. Back up your answer with tangible data, and use technical words to convince the interviewer of your case for studying in Canada.

5. Be Clear about Funding and Sponsorship

Visa regulations demand that a student going to Canada for the purpose of getting an education be capable of funding his/her tuition and living expenses without a pressing need for seeking part-time employment. Be ready to explain all the sources of your funds if you are self-sponsored; if a parent or guardian is going to be sponsoring you, furnish the officer with all the necessary details. In case you are getting a fee waiver or a scholarship, you could probably face a question on how much and exactly why you are getting it – therefore, organize the reasons in your head before you head to the interview.

6. Remember the Exact Dates of Your Last Visit to Canada, if Applicable

If you have been to Canada before, the interviewer may ask you about your trip. You should ideally remember your exact arrival and departure dates besides the purpose of visit.

The Estimated Costs of Studying in Canada - Kanan International

It’s essential for you to have an estimate of how much money you are likely to be spending in Canada besides your tuition fee. Spare yourself any shocks or surprises by going through the following breakdown on the cost of studying in Canada.

The major budget eater will be accommodation

While studying in Canada, you have the choice to either live on-campus or off-campus. On-campus living is generally costlier than renting apartments or homestays, but it has its own set of advantages like greater opportunity to participate in university activities besides academics and better chances of socializing with fellow students.

Off-campus accommodation, however, offers you the flexibility to choose from many options like renting an apartment or studio independently, sharing a house or going for homestays with local families.

Coming to a city-wise division of living costs, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec have some excellent universities, and accommodation in these cities would cost you about CAD 1000 a month.

Among the more expensive cities are Calgary and Vancouver, where accommodation costs can go up to CAD 1500 a month, living individually. You can always share an apartment with another student to save significantly.

If you are a young undergrad student, you can expect a tremendous reduction in your monthly bills. This is because most Canadian provinces require that students under the age of 18, or 19 in some provinces, reside in a homestay with a host family. This option costs you about CAD 600-800 a month and in most cases, your host family will provide you with meals, leading to a further reduction in expenses.

Food won’t pinch you much

In most cases, all your food expenses (besides eating out) can fit into the CAD 250 bracket a month. Choose any local grocery store or supermarket and you’ll be able to cover almost all your requirements conveniently and economically.

Moreover, eating out in Canada is not as expensive as other countries either. For a mere CAD 20 you can get a pretty decent meal. Finer restaurants offer three-course meals for CAD 30 per person per meal.

Transportation is fairly economical

You can get a monthly transport pass to cover all your public transport trips at a reasonable price. University students, particularly those under the age of 25, are eligible for further discounts on their transport cards.

When you study in Canada, some of the other costs that you need to be prepared to bear include cost of air tickets, health insurance, and visa fee. Besides, you would also need to spend on books and stationery and also warm clothing as the winters here are extremely cold. To lessen the cost of studying in Canada it is always best to look for the various scholarship options available.

Advice for Students Planning to Study in Canada

Moving to a new country for studying can be quite an unnerving experience. That being said, it can also be a fun experience. Following are a few things to remember while going to study in Canada.

Before going to Study in Canada

As many students would know already, going to Canada is not as simple as 1,2,3. Each and every student is competing with a Canadian student when it comes to getting through to a university. Following are a few things needed for applying to Canadian universities:

  • University application form
  • Letter of intent
  • IELTS document
  • Academic records
  • Reference from professors or teachers
  • Registration fee

If everything goes okay with the application process, then a student receives a LOA or letter of acceptance from the university. This LOA then empowers the student for getting a student visa.

In Canada

Other than the culture shock which every international student goes through, the education system in Canada can also be a bit shocking. This doesn’t mean that it is bad. It is actually quite the opposite!

A culture of debate and learning

The Canadian education system is unique because it involves the students almost as much as it involves the teachers. It is not about simply sitting there and listening to the teacher. Rather, the students are all expected to partake in an active debating environment inside the classroom. Teachers and professors in Canada are often required to play the role of moderators while discussing with students.

More about Study in Canada

Other than being a very peaceful nation, Canada is also one of the best countries for finding work after graduation for international students. Following are a few positives of studying in Canada.

  • The student gets to experience a multicultural environment, which enhances his or her view of the world.
  • The student gains from a global education system
  • The student gets to earn a diploma which is recognized all over the world
  • By choosing to live and study in Canada independently, the student becomes self-reliant.

There are negatives too, but most students find a way to overcome them. For example, there might be language barriers or plain simple culture shock which many students find difficult to cope with. There might be many moments of despair because the student is in a foreign country and away from home and family. But these things do get better with time.

How to make the most of Study in Canada experience:

  • Students need to be as fluent in English as possible. This is very important for studying what is being taught and also for interacting with other students and teachers.
  • Students need to be aware of all the procedures which are applicable to international students. For example they should know how to extend their work permits or all rules related to student visas.

Almost all universities in Canada have clubs and other programs in place for international students. By joining these, a student can enjoy a truly immersive experience.

Statement of Purpose to Study Abroad - Kanan International

How To Write A Strong Statement Of Purpose (SOP) To Study Abroad – Kanan International

Statement of purpose is an essay which is often asked for by foreign universities. The word limit is usually of 1000 words. The main aim behind this statement of purpose is to understand why the student is choosing a particular course and what he or she hopes to achieve after studying it.

Benefits of Good SOP

A statement of purpose can be of various types. Some universities ask for a long essay whereas some ask for an essay based on questions. Whatever the type may be, a SOP must include the student’s future goals, his or her academic progress and the career path they have chosen for themselves. Other important things to include are personal motivations behind choosing the particular course and how the student chooses to utilize that education for achieving his or her goals.

A statement of purpose is a vital part of application to foreign universities. It should be tailored according to the course the student is taking. A statement of purpose written for a MSc course has to be different from a statement of purpose written for MS. Similarly, a SOP for Study in Canada should be different from a SOP for Study in USA.

Tips of Writing Statement of Purpose for study abroad

Personal and or financial background

Personal background is a must in the statement of purpose because it is one of the things universities are looking for. If a student has overcome all adversities and continued education despite all odds, then it should be included in the SOP. If a student has proved to be brilliant in studies in spite of financial difficulties, then that too should be included in the statement.

Personal failures

Most students wouldn’t even think of including this in the SOP. But it is in fact a must. The main purpose behind writing about one’s failures is to allow others to understand that the student has bounced back from all those failures.

Work experience

Not all courses ask for job experience. But it is a good idea to include the same in the SOP if the student has any. This can include part time jobs and even voluntary ones. Any job, even if it lasted for only a month, should be included because it was an experience after all.

Extra-curricular activities

This can include anything from participating in sports activities or in college debates. This will help the university with understanding whether the student is a team player and whether he or she has leadership qualities. Extra-curricular activities also highlight how determined the student is to achieve his or her goals.

Published articles or papers

This is extremely important for students who are applying for doctorate or masters programs. Be it a story submitted to a magazine or a research project, it should be included in the statement of purpose. This helps the university with understanding a student’s thought process.

Why we need SOP for Higher Studies

  • SOP helps universities with understanding the student’s decision to take the particular course.
  • This gives them an insight into the student’s academic life and other achievements

How are scores calculated in IELTS? – read more

Nobody can be an expert at all the four sections. Somebody is good at reading and somebody else is better at listening. You need to decide which section would need more attention from you. Once you decide on that, you need to dedicate more time for that section.

It is quite easy to score a 6 in IELTS without any help. However, with a little help it is easy to score 8!

Listening section:

Set aside 45 minutes to an hour on a daily basis for honing your listening skills. This doesn’t mean that you will watch a movie or listen to rock songs. You have to listen to something which is not in the form of an audio-visual. Listening to the radio is a good option. Listen to channels like BBC radio and take notes. When done, make a summary and read it out to someone else.

Reading section:

There are two hurdles which you have to cross for acing the reading section

  • You have to increase your comprehension skills
  • You have to increase your reading speed

Both of these hurdles can be easily crossed by reading articles on a daily basis. Read newspaper articles or online news articles (not Facebook please).

Writing section:

This is reportedly the most difficult section of IELTS. This requires you to write essays/letters.

Task 1 – You have to write a letter

Learn how to write the following types of letters:

  • Job application letters
  • Personal request letters
  • Business request letters
  • Complaint letters

Task 2 – Essays

You will be asked to write any of the following:

Discussion essay

Argument essay

In order to write an essay, you need to memorize the format of each of the paragraphs. This will take some time, but as you go on memorizing, it will be become easier.

Write draft essays at first and then re-write the same as a neat essay. Always proofread your essays after you write them.

Material provided by Kanan International for students preparing for IELTS

Speaking section:

The speaking section is a relatively easier in IELTS. People who are comfortable with speaking find it very easy to pass this section. If by any chance, you don’t speak much, then you need to start practicing regularly. Start with speaking to your friends and to your family. However, you will always not get them for practicing your speaking skills. The best idea is to hire a tutor with whom you can have stimulating conversations.

More tips for scoring band 8 in IELTS:

  • Take model test just before the day of the exam
  • Do not skip breakfast before going to give the exam (Hunger deprives the brain of oxygen and you won’t be able to concentrate)
  • Stay confident

How Are Scores Calculated in IELTS?

How are Scores Calculated in IELTS?

IELTS has four sections. All of these four sections are given scores from 1 to 9. You can score half bands (5.5) or whole bands (5.0) in each of these sections of IELTS.

Overall score

How is your overall score calculated?

Your overall score is calculated with the help of the mean score of all the four sections. The four sections of the IELTS are writing, speaking, reading and listening. The score of each of these sections is put together and then divided by four. Then your overall score is rounded up to the band which is the nearest.

For example:

Suppose you get the following scores in each of the IELTS sections

Listening: 6.5

Reading – 6.5

Speaking – 7.0

Writing – 5.0

Your total score is – 25

Divided by four: 6.25

Your overall score would be: 6.25

Reading and listening scores: How are they calculated

The listening and reading sections in IELTS have 40 questions each. Each of these questions carries one mark. You can score max 40 for each of these sections.

A band from 1 to 9 is given based on your raw score in each of these sections.

Speaking and writing scores: How are they calculated?

The scoring for these two sections of IELTS is a bit more detailed than the other two. Let us see how the scores are calculated.

The writing section in IELTS has two “tasks”. Each of these tasks are scored individually.

The two tasks are:

  • Letter writing
  • Essay writing

Each of these tasks contains four scoring criteria(s):

The four criteria(s) are:

  • Lexical Resource
  • Coherence and Cohesion
  • Grammatical range and accuracy
  • Task response (for Task 2) and Task achievement (for Task 1)

Each of these four criteria(s) are weighed equally

The Speaking section too has four scoring criteria(s):

They are as follows:

  • Lexical resource
  • Grammatical range and accuracy
  • Pronunciation
  • Fluency and Coherence

Each of these four criteria(s) are weighed equally

The IELTS scoring scale:

0 – You didn’t take the test

1 – You have no ability of the English language

2 – You face difficulty with writing and speaking in English

Improve Your TOEFL Score

Improve Your TOEFL Score

Preparation is very important. People mostly feel stress during writing exams because they don’t prepare well. Study the format of TOEFL in detail before taking the test.

Become a pro at computers

One of the fastest ways of improving TOEFL scores is to become an expert at using a computer. Not being familiar with using a computer can make you feel nervous. Before you take TOEFL, you should practice typing on a computer on a regular basis. Make use of the TOEFL computer tutorial fully. This will save you valuable time.

Learn about each section

The TOEFL IBT Preparation Course and the TOEFL IBT Introductory Course will help you with learning about the exam structure. You will also learn about the different sections of the test (reading, speaking, writing). While taking your TOEFL Training, you will be able to develop strategies for taking each section. This will help you with scoring more in the test.

Learn to put ideas on paper

In TOEFL iBT, all candidates have to write an essay. You may have ideas about how to write a good essay. But putting them down on paper will be not an easy job. This is why you should practice writing short essays for half an hour on a regular basis during your TOEFL Training.

How to ace the reading section:

  • Learn about academic vocabulary

  • Practice reading books/newspapers on a daily basis. Don’t use a dictionary if possible.

  • Learn to read a passage at one go. You won’t get time to read it again fully.

How to ace the speaking section:

  • Summarize everything in the end. Don’t forget to give a short conclusion.

  • Do not use words which you are not comfortable with!

  • Do not use idioms or phrases you don’t know the meaning of. You might lose points because of improper usage.

How to ace the writing section:

  • Write clearly and in simple language which is easy to understand

  • Do not use vocabulary you aren’t sure of

  • Do not use punctuations you aren’t sure of

  • Use the same format for writing the essay during your TOEFL Training.

  • Use examples as support

  • Use transition words. You can find a list of transition words at the following link:

More tips:

Keep yourself full

Eat well before taking the exam. This might sound patronizing, but it is actually important to eat before an exam. If your brain is oxygen deprived because you get hungry in the middle of the exam, you won’t be able to concentrate on the test.

Find an ex-TOEFL candidate

Find someone in your circle who has already taken the test and has aced it. He or she will be able to offer you TOEFL Coaching and will offer valuable tips. He or she will also have answers to all your questions regarding the test.

Off-campus accommodation (Some universities don’t provide on-campus accommodation)

Home-stays (suitable if you are under eighteen years old)

Get your own transport

America is a huge country and it might get difficult for you to move around without your own transport while you study in the USA. President Trump and His Impact – If You Are Planning To Study in USA

President Trump and His Impact – If You Are Planning To Study in USA

Impact of Donald Trump’s Presidential Win on Indian International Students

With numerous academic courses to choose from – science, architecture, medicine, arts, engineering, etc., world class institutions providing superior facilities and amenities, United States of America has always been a numero uno choice of Indian studies aspiring for higher education study abroad. But, the recent US presidential elections have put many aspiring student’s future prospects at risk. With Donald Trump being the president-elect, there are concerns and worries amongst prospective students about their stay and future in America. However, students need not worry as Donald Trump has categorically stated that Indian students are ‘smart people’ and the US very much needs them for the development of their country.

Study in USA

First things first, anyone staying, studying and working in America legally, with valid permits and VISA should be absolutely confident, without any fear. The students who have gone to study in USA with a valid VISA can stay there until the course completes. International students on an F1 visa have a 60 days extension to stay in US on completion of the said course, if they haven’t enrolled in additional course or classes. If an international student with USA Student VISA withdraws from the course with authorization from the institute, he has 15 days to leave the country.

For students who want to apply for USA student VISA, though Trump has mentioned altering immigration laws during his campaign, he has been open to international students working in America. Last year, he mentioned on his social media that he welcomes talented people in his country, to work hard and become citizens.

Trump has particularly emphasized on banning immigrants from the countries that are known to support or promote terrorism, or linked with the same, with his only focus to terminate the malice of terrorism from his country. India has been known to be a victim of terrorism and not otherwise, hence, there shouldn’t be a problem with America not letting legitimate Indian students to study there under valid permits.

The Student Partnership Program Explained

The Student Partnership Program Explained

If you are interested in going to Canada for higher studies, you would have undoubtedly heard about the Student Partnership Program, called SPP in short. Either you would have read about it somewhere or heard about it from someone. Whether you have already heard about it but don’t know anything much about it, or you already know a little bit, or are hearing about it for the first time today, we at Kanan International are here to help you understand all you need to know about this wonderful program that can make things easier and smoother for your study-in-Canada aspirations.

What is the SPP?

This program is a joint partnership between the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (also called ACCC) and the Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s visa offices which are in India (CIC). The aim of this program was to make the process of visa procurement for students less of a hassle than it had become over the years. In fact, ever since the program was launched, the percentage of students who got a visa successfully through this program has been exponential, changing the lives of these students for the better. So if you want to apply for a course in Canada, it would be smart to look into the Student Partnership Program first and check your eligibility. Kanan International has all the facilities and expertise needed to guide you through the process.

What is the eligibility for SPP?

  • You can apply for the program until the age of 25.
  • All 12th, HSC, diploma, bachelors, masters degree holders can apply for the program, provided they have a minimum 2nd class throughout their academic career.
  • Work experience of up to 5 years will be taken into consideration.
  • The IELTS requirements for the program are 6.0 band for the academic modules. If you are applying for the postgraduate programs, this requirement is raised to 6.0 and if you are applying for courses in nursing, dental, physiotherapy, and pharmacy, etc., this would be 7.0.
  • You would have to show proof of finances. This is through a GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) amounting to $10,280 CAD from Scotia Bank which covers the living expenses for a year as well as payment evidence for the first year/semester tuition fees.
  • College fee would have to be in the range of $13,000 to $15,000 for one year or two semester and paid in advance before applying for the visa.

Benefits of the SPP

  • The SPP takes about 15 to 20 days maximum for the student visa to get processed.
  • There are a great number of colleges that are listed in the SPP, and the chances of getting a visa are greater if you apply under this program.
  • When you apply under the SPP, you can be assured that the educational institution you are applying to is world class in quality.
  • There is no need for income tax proof under this program.
  • You need less documentation for your visa process under this program.

With so many benefits, applying for the SPP is a smart choice which Kanan International can help you with.

Living And Studying Abroad with Kanan International

Living And Studying Abroad – Kanan International

So you’ve taken the momentous step of deciding to study abroad in Canada or the U.S. Congratulations! You can be sure that this is a decision that will be a positive turning point in your life. With thousands of Indian students weaving spectacular success stories out of their studies abroad, there is no doubt that you too will add your story to this long line of testimonials. Canada and the U.S., especially, are countries that are very warm and friendly, greeting international students with an open heart.

However, there are still a few things to keep in mind before going on the most important adventure of your life-that of living and studying abroad. Kanan International is here to help you with this, just as it has helped thousands of other students settle abroad successfully. So, form our experience, here are the most important things to keep in mind:

  • Although you can get all the info you need about your destination country from us, it is still advisable to do your own research and get to know all about the country and the specific state and city that you are going to be staying in. This would include getting information about the weather (so you know what kind of clothes to buy or pack), whether there is an Indian population there (so if you get homesick, you can still find someone to talk to or shop around in an Indian store!), what are landmarks, places of interest, etc. Getting to know more about the place will help to dispel any nervousness you may have (which is only natural).

  • Organize your finances, so that you have a clear picture of what are the necessary expenses, as well as keeping extra for unexpected scenarios.

  • Ensure that all your documents for the visa processing and university documentation is in order so you don’t have to go hunting for them at the last minute.

  • Once you are settled in the country, an important but much overlooked step is to register yourself at the Indian Embassy. Here, you can get to meet others, participate or attend cultural events, talk to people when you are in any trouble, etc., which can be of great help in your stay in the country.

  • It is crucial that you get a bank account as soon as you are settled so that you can keep your money safer and more accessible.

Myths Debunked Pertaining To Studying Abroad

Myths Debunked – Pertaining To Studying Abroad

Although the number of students going abroad to study from India has increased exponentially in recent years, with the majority of students choosing the U.S. and Canada, people still have a lot of misgivings about sending their children abroad to study (youngsters too).  The fact is that these myths floating around pertaining to studying abroad, and specifically in these two countries, have to be debunked because it stands in the way of many students achieving their true potential. So here are the top myths and the truth about them:

  • Only those who have high academic scores can get admissions to universities in the U.S. and Canada: This is a myth because, unlike the Indian educational system that places a heavy emphasis on academics, universities abroad take a holistic, well-rounded approach to an applicant. They take into account their experiences in volunteering, their extracurricular activities and achievements, their philosophy in life, and choose students who will be a good fit for that particular university. So don’t let your low academic scores prevent you from at least applying to these colleges!

  • Studying Abroad is unsafe: The fact is that crime happens in any country, even India! In the U.S., universities take the security of their students very seriously. The law enforcement agencies are also very thorough about this. As far as Canada is concerned, it was ranked as one of the top 10 countries for peace by the Global Peace Index and is widely known for being multicultural and peaceful.

  • Canada is too cold and snowy all year round: Canada is a vast country and the climate varies from place to place. There are places where the summers are very pleasant and where it doesn’t snow in winters at all! So don’t let the fear of cold or snow stop you from studying in one of the world’s most scenic countries!

It is difficult to get a student visa: This would depend on how you go about the process. Kanan International has successfully helped thousands of Indian students get student visas in the U.S. and Canada. All you need is the right expert to help and you are through!
